Yes, the British do have a charming and distinct accent. When they tell a story, it sounds fascinating. At the same time, our accents are just as attractive to our counterparts. You feel special without having to try hard. Just being American makes you stand out.
Sometimes Brits are viewed as being stuffy, but they are a very welcoming crowd. It’s not unusual for a group of them to ask if you would like to hang out. Many times if they ask you to stay for a weekend, you will end up staying for a few weeks. Even if you’re not an official house guest.
Brits tend to be very sincere and don’t take compliments very well. If they make a compliment to someone, odds are they truly mean it. In the U.K., if a compliment does make it your way, a simple “thank you” will suffice. Don’t go overboard.
